Kevin Ober is a Managing Director of Divergent Ventures. Prior to Divergent, he spent 7 years with Vulcan Ventures, a national venture capital firm owned by Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft Corporation. While with Vulcan, he led investments in Internet Infrastructure companies Internap Network Services Corporation, Nexabit Networks, Wavtrace and Net Perceptions. Other investments included Command Audio, Capstone Turbine, Colorado Micro Displays, ShareWave, Terastor and Netschools.
Prior to working at Vulcan Ventures, Ober served in various positions at Conner Peripherals, Inc., a computer hard disk drive manufacturer in San Jose California. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from St. John’s University and a Master of Business Administration from Santa Clara University. Rob Shurtleff is a Managing Director of Divergent Ventures. He has more than 20 years of software design, development, product marketing and management experience in high-profile, fast-growth technology companies. In addition to his hands on operating experience, Shurtleff has been active in the venture community as an angel investor since 1996. In 1999 Shurtleff founded Sightline Partners, a strategic consulting group focused on early stage companies in conjunction with a number of Venture firms in Seattle. Shurtleff served on the Board of Directors of Internap Network Exchange (NASD INAP) since January of 1997 through December of 2004, and had been involved with the company since its inception.
In addition to Internap, Shurtleff is actively involved with a number of pre-public startups serving on the Board of Directors, advisory boards and he was also the interim CEO of Asta Networks in 2002. From 1988 to 1998, Shurtleff held various management positions at Microsoft Corporation, primarily creating email products including Microsoft Exchange. Prior to working at Microsoft, he worked for Hewlett-Packard Company and Digital Equipment Corp in a variety of software development and management positions.
